Home Wildfire Mitigation Field Checklist (Decks + Immediate Zone)

0–5 Foot Zone (Critical)

1. Deck-to-Wall Flashing

• Metal flashing installed
• Vertical rise ≥ 2 in (measure: __ in)
• Horizontal overhang ≥ 1 in (measure: __ in)
• No wood-to-siding direct contact
• Ledger area sealed

2. Deck Underside Protection (<4 ft height)

• Enclosed with 1/8” metal mesh or non-combustible panels
• No combustibles underneath

3. Railing/Step Connection to House

• Railings separated from siding (≥1 in) or flashing installed
• No direct wood-to-wall contact

4. Fence-to-Wall Flashing / Break

• Non-combustible break or metal flashing installed
• No direct wood-to-wall junction

5. Ground Clearance Below Siding

• Clearance ≥ 6 in (measure: __ in)
• No soil/duff against siding

6. Debris Removal (Roof/Gutters/Decks)

• Roof clear
• Gutters clear
• Deck surfaces clear
• 0–5 ft zone clear to mineral soil or gravel

7. Woodpiles & Combustibles

• No combustibles within 0–5 ft
• Woodpiles ≥30 ft from structures

5–30 Foot Zone

8. Outbuildings / Sheds / Playsets

• Structure ≥10 ft from home (__ ft)
• 5 ft non-combustible perimeter
• Remove combustibles against walls

30–100 Foot Zone

9. Ladder Fuels & Trees

• Trees >18 ft → prune up 6 ft
• Trees <18 ft → prune 1/3 height
• Remove ladder fuels
